2009.10.21 Road renovation in Vientiane in progress
(KPL) A renovation project of a 4.5-km road from Done Noun junction to the National Complex Stadium at km16 is now 81 percent completed. The work which involves the pavement asphalting and decoration would be completed at the end of this month.
The renovation work of this SEA Games Road is behind target by about 13 per cent, said Head of the Vientiane Road Development project, Mr Sithong Thongkeo. The project is built to welcome the 25th SEA Games scheduled for December and next years celebration of the 450th anniversary of the proclamation of Vientiane as the national capital. The work on the SEA Games road is a loan from the People’s Republic of China, which has been completed by 79 per cent.
While a 6.23-km road behind the National Complex Stadium linking to the 450-year Road, has been completed by 78 per cent. The construction of the 450-year Road, 20.3 km long, is now completed by 48 percent, lagging behind the target by 7.5 percent.
However, the renovation of a 4.7-km long stretch linking the National Stadium (km16) to the Dongdok junction was underway and was being carried out against time, which is expected to be completed by the coming month.
The construction project of a concrete road, 8.64 km long, from Phontong to Dongdok is in progress. The work is estimated to be completed by 75 per cent and is expected to be complete by the end of November or before the opening of the 25th SEA Games in December.
The construction lags behind the expectation by 23 per cent due to the heavy rainfall in the previous months, said Mr Sithong.
